Why Šoltan olive oil?
The Šoltanka variety has long been classified by experts as part of an elite group of the world’s super-olive varieties. It is especially valued in the production of healthy olive oil with high levels of phenolic compounds. The climate of Šolta with hot and dry summers, exposure to northern wind “bura”, minerals in limestone, and the specific composition of soil and flora all form this unique product, and additionally give it a unique mark. The additional perfection and complexity of the taste and aroma of Šoltan olive oil is due to the fact that the olive groves of our producers are scattered throughout the island. Each microlocation gives our common olive oil finely differentiated fragrant and delicious hints, which leave no connoisseur or lover of olive oil indifferent.
What benefits give ŠOLTA OLIVE OIL WITH PROTECTED DESIGNATION OF ORIGIN to consumers?
Olive oil from Šolta has gone a long way in controls and testing, and has been back in 2016. PROTECTED DESIGNATION OF ORIGIN – (PDO). Consumers benefit the most from this, as they have three things to be guaranteed:
First, that each bottle of Šolta olive oil bearing the PDO contains oil from carefully processed olives exclusively from Šolta olive groves, that the processing into oil was made to high standards in an oil mill on the island of Šolta and that bottling took place on Šolta. Only such Šolta olive oil is allowed to leave the island of Šolta.
Secondly, that olive cultivation, processing into oil and the quantities produced are controlled by accredited control bodies, inspections and additionally by members of the Association “Golden Šoltanka”.
Thirdly, that the quality of the product meets the high requirements that the manufacturers – members of the Association have set for themselves and fixed in the Product Specification with ZOI “Šolta Olive Oil”, which are above the standard for extra virgin olive oils.
